Style

I am working on developing a “style” for my photos. It’s coming together for both shots of people and, as you can see here, cars. It uses more vignette than Lester and Chloe would like but I don’t care, I like it as a focusing tool.

The biggest thing I am struggling with is backgrounds. The image above uses the warehouse I store some of the cars in and I really like it.

For people I am using a ton of vignette and pulling the exposure way down on everything that is not the subject and cranking the contrast and black levels on the subject way up. Then I am creating an artificial light to highlight whatever it is I am interested in. The result ends up grainy and sort of “old” looking which I like.

It’s probably silly and any professional will laugh, but it’s art, right?

Here are a few random photos you may enjoy, or have a look at all my portfolio, my work shooting roadside memorials, or car people that I have photographed.
