Amity and I went to friend Richard’s house today to see his new setup for woodworking and the such. I grabbed the camera, thinking to myself, “Highway 20 seems like it will have some descansos along it.”

Six, in five miles.

Six memorials on Highway 20 memorializing at least eight people losing their lives, likely more. There wasn’t much information about these descanso online that I could find, but what I could find just described bad luck, bad judgement, or both.

The eight lives that included an eleven year old and a twenty five year old, both too young to lose their lives by any and every measure.

I find myself driving a little slower after starting this project. No doubt I will shave a little more speed off when driving this particular stretch of Highway 20. It’s not a complex piece of road; there are no blind turns, no high-speed sections due to the general level of traffic.

But it’s deadly, that’s for sure.
