“Our angel Teresa,” says the desconsos on deadly highway 197 just South of La Pine, Oregon, but unfortunately there was nothing else to identify the memorialized individual.

The cross sits in front of a somewhat typical “compound” out in this area — busted cars, tattered flags proclaiming allegiance to political parties, and a single-wide trailer. Folks inside the fence saw me but decided I wasn’t worth their time and thankfully let me take my photos.

Traffic really moves here. I was glad to be a few dozen feet back from the road.
