This one hits closer to home. Stanley Stephen Smith died in a rollover crash on Highway 97 just South of Sunriver. He was 54.

I’m 54.

Amity and I had gone to La Pine for lunch, just for something different. I missed two descansos on the way but have the on my map. I figured I was getting shut out when Amity said “there’s one!”

Off to the left side of the road it was sort of in an odd place. Big, wide-open road, no huge trees around. Turns out it didn’t matter.

The highway traffic is absolutely flying at this point, but the turnoff to Vandervert road is just past where Smith lost his life. The police report said icy conditions and I believe it.

I shot with the 907X and feel like I am starting to understand the camera. The lack of stabilization really changes how I shoot; I took a dozen shots of Wolfi and maybe two turned out since I had too low a shutter speed.

I did better with Stanley’s photos today, I think.
