Josh
Josh Matthes must have not been paying attention on the morning of August 23rd when he was heading towards Bend from La Pine. He rear-ended a pickup truck, lost control, and was hit by a Southbound car.
He died at the entrance to the High Desert museum.

It isn’t clear to me whether all three of the crosses I photographed are all for Josh or if there was another accident here. A little more sleuthing on the Internet does tell me that he was a father when he died.
He was only twenty five, so his child couldn’t have been very old when he lost his dad.

The smallest cross on the ground had “Happy Birthday” necklaces hung on it and was surrounded by flowers. Clearly the loss is still being felt.

Ironically, given this photo project, I have driven by this location hundreds of times since the accident. I just never noticed.
It goes to show what you’ll see when you start looking.
