Invisible

Invisible

Some of the descansos I photograph are nearly invisible on the side of the road. Sometimes due to neglect, sometimes due to shadows, and sometimes because they are just tiny little things that you would naturally overlook at 65 miles per hour.

This one was all three.

I have passed this section of deadly highway 97 thousands of times — literally — in the last decade and have never once noticed the little cross and faded flowers off the East side of the road. Even after I started looking for them, I missed this marker a dozen times.

This was the first memorial I shot on what would prove to be a somewhat expensive but very photographically productive day.

Rest in peace, invisible one.
