Alissa

In Colorado descansos are a little more few and far between than in New Mexico, and I had started to wonder if I was going to see anything at all … and Alissa appeared.

Her memorial is beautifully decorated despite her passing in 2018. “In memory of life so beautifully lived. A heart deeply loved” says the carving at the base of the cross.

Of course there is a stuffed animal. There is always a stuffed animal. There was not, however, any detail on the Internet about what led to this memorial, only that she passed away at twenty three years old.

Her descanso really stands out on the fence with the majestic mountains in the background with flags on either side, waving in the wind.

I waited for awhile, hoping those clouds would clear off the peak, but with the wife in the car and hours to go to our destination it wasn’t in the cards.
