Friend
“A friend loves at all times,” says the tiny cross at the base of this descanso. I am not sure if that’s 100% true, but it’s certainly nice sentiment, and I am 100% sure I would never have seen this descanso up on NF40 outside of Sunriver, Oregon if it weren’t for my friend Kerry.

Kerry has seen some of my work with these memorials and is keeping his eyes open for them in his travels. I’m grateful for that, and for his friendship. Good friends are hard to make when you’re an old fart like me.

As far as the memorial goes, there was nothing to identify the deceased, just a small wooden cross with the metal pin seen above and the small “friend” cross. The whole thing is difficult to see, coming at you quickly from one direction and hidden behind a rock from the other.

Rest in peace, friend.
