By virtue of being at Circuit of the Americas for the Dream Drives for Kids event I was able to take photos of the Wright Racing #98 team — Patrick Dempsey, Patrick Long, and Tanner Foust. Depending on your age and background you certainly know at least one if not all of these gentlemen.

Since Dempsey was the focus of a lot of attention with his “Return to Racing” video I ended up with a few more shots of him.

(As an aside, I wasn’t really prepared to meet Mr. Dempsey and I ended up being somewhat starstruck when I did. He wasn’t named “Man of the Year” for nothing …)

The entire trip gave me experience with my longer lens on the Hasselblad and trying to take photos without being a nuisance.

The biggest lesson from the trip to COTA? Motorsports photography is hard! I look at the work of other photographers at the track and think “that doesn’t seem so difficult” and man, am I wrong. In a world where timing is everything … the difference between an amazing shot and a blurry mess is unimaginably short.
