America

No names or markers on this descanso on Ward Road near Hockinson, Washington; another memorial I have driven by countless times yet only saw after my friend Juan Carlos told me about it, despite the obvious Christmas in America theme.

The only text on either cross says “God Bless America.”

On my wife’s encouragement I bought one of those bright yellow vests that road workers wear and I used it for the first time during this shoot. I was glad I did: the road had almost no shoulder and traffic came at me at what seemed to be well over the speed limit (although I admit, a car coming within a few feet of you is intimidating at any speed.)
