Señoritas

On July 18, 2015, four señoritas lost their lives on Mexico Highway 200. Kelly, Yessica, Karla, and Esmerelda, all in their twenties and thirties. As is more common in Mexico, their families have built an elaborate descanso for them out here, sort of in the middle of nowhere, on the road from Sayulita to Puerto Vallarta.

While the flowers in the memorial were both fresh and bright, I was saddened by the scene and could not come up with color settings that I liked, but when I pulled the color out of these shots it seemed right.

The internet again was unhelpful in learning what happened. I’m getting used to that here in Mexico, but it’s a little frustrating since clearly these girls were loved. It seems to me that there should be a note, a mention, or an explanation of what led to their deaths, but I guess back in 2015 some news just didn’t get reported.
