Corner a Uno

Corner a Uno

On every road there are bad turns; those turns that are off camber, blind, or otherwise just dangerous and so it’s probably not surprising that when we come upon one of these corners that we may find descansos.

We didn’t expect to find three.

On the West side of the road at this corner there were two separate memorials: the first for five individuals whom I assume lost their lives together.

The second was a smaller but still very elaborate descanso for a single individual.

These memorials are close enough together that, at first, I assumed they were from the same accident. Closer inspection shows that the dates in each are very different: the larger group appears to have died in the early ’70s, while the individual in 2011.

Again, standing there on the side of the road with traffic whipping by me, I am not surprised to see evidence of bad accidents. A little water on the road or any small error on the driver’s part would be catastrophic.

Descanse en paz, todos persones.
