Old
The descansos in Mexico are like buildings in Europe: old, but built to stand the tests of time. I have seen and photographed several that look to have been established twenty-plus years ago, but yesterday I came across this one:

No markings, no words, even the paint is starting to peel off. The grass and weeds have grown up around it, and before long I suspect the cross will return to the earth from which it ultimately came.

I couldn’t have gotten closer if I wanted to, which I didn’t, because who knows what type of creature was waiting to bite, sting, or otherwise maim me in that brush? And honestly, I like these shots more since I think they convey the age of the memorial better than a date or a name really could.

Descanse en paz, old one.
