Gonzales
I wasn’t sure I was going to get to photograph this one. It was in a pretty sketchy area, parking wise, and the traffic on the road between Punta Mita and Sayulita moves at a pretty good clip. But it was Sunday and so with traffic a little lighter I was able to convince my better half that the skinny little pullout would be okay and I scampered down the road with the Hasselblad.

“SES GONZALES” was all that was left of the name? I’m not even going to guess at the first name, invariably I’d get it wrong. And while the cross wasn’t very old — it looks like the accident was on November 11, 2022 — it was showing signs of decay, likely due to being in more or less the jungle.

Nothing to go on to look him or her up, not that I have had much success with that here in Mexico. Sad nonetheless.

Descanse en paz, Gonzales.
