Elgama

Elgama

As I got back into the car after photographing Hugo I looked to my right and saw Elgama Mace. His or her memorial was tucked in next to some kind of cement structure that appeared to be abandoned, and positioned squarely in front of construction equipment, a well built pink chapel with flowers, a cross, and of course, beer.

I was struck by the machinery in the background and had to wonder if Elgama’s days here are numbered? The descanso is in front of the barb wire fence but not by much. If the machinery rumbles to life, does the memorial have to go?

I suspect I will never know.

No dates on the memorial but the flowers were recently placed it seemed, still colorful and no signs of rot or mold.

Descanse en paz, Elgama.
