Redo

Redo

I have passed this descanso a handful of times during our visits to Pacific City. It’s between our condo and what is quite possibly the best Indian food in the state of Oregon and a state liquor store that has a reasonably good scotch selection.

When I first saw it the flowers weren’t there; it was just a few pieces of PVC pipe, or at least that’s how it looked going by at fifty five miles per hour while navigating a big left-hand sweeper.

Turns out there was more to it than that.

Upon closer inspection there was a much, much older cross attached to the adjacent tree, and perhaps the PVC pipe was a “do over” or redo effort to memorialize the deceased. I’ll never know, but the older cross sure was beautiful juxtaposed against the coastal rainforest.

The flowers definitely weren’t there last time we came by, so it’s nice to know that even on these older memorials people still think about their loved ones and visit from time to time.

I probably shot 200 photos, the scene was so peaceful, despite the cars whipping by up and down the grade towards the top of this particular coastal mountain peak.

Again, I bet ninety nine out of one hundred drivers heading South miss this cross, and they probably should. At the point you’d see it you are also busy navigating a left-hand sweeper that leads immediately to a right-hand sweeper … which on wet roads, in the dark, or just in general, can definitely be dangerous.

Rest in peace.
