One Hundred Descansos

One Hundred Descansos

On my trip to Puerto Vallarta I shot my hundredth descansos. It was Victor, if my math is correct, although the order I publish the photos isn’t quite the same as the order I photograph them in.

Not that it matters, I suppose.

I don’t think that back in January when I decided to start shooting these memorials I had a target in mind; I think the plan was just to use the project as a way to force myself to shoot and get better with the Hasselblad, manual photography, Adobe Lightroom, and the such.

Now, one hundred memorials and several thousand photos taken later … I’m hooked. I love the project and definitely feel like it’s serving the purpose I planned and possibly more.

Thanks to this project I have met some cool new photographers, I’ve gotten useful feedback, I’ve justified the purchase of some cool new gear, and hell, I have even started to learn to make my own frames!

I have to admit, I still have no real idea where I am going with all of this, but I’m committed to it for now. I recently asked on Reddit “where have you seen these memorials” and the response was overwhelming! I now have a list of locations to shoot that will last me well into the Spring, possibly beyond, and I’m beginning to plan trips with time to look for descansos on the itinerary.

You can see all of my work here if you’re interested, and thank you for following along.
