Crowd Sourcing

It occurred to me that other people are seeing descansos and taking note of them even if they aren’t taking photos. I decided to test this theory using Reddit, the “front page” of the Internet, when I asked the Taos and Santa Fe, New Mexico “subreddits” if they knew of any.

I was completely blown away by the response.

A dozen folks point me towards memorials they knew of, two people wrote me directly with useful information, and one brilliant soul pointed out that the OpenStreetMap folks have an overlay for desconsos (they call them “wayside_cross”). Between these responses I was able to assemble this map of photo opportunities for my coming trip.

How cool is that? I knew that New Mexico was going to be busy in terms of shooting but now I have a better sense of how long each day will be and which route I need to take.
