Jose

Jose

Jose “Joe” Luis Islas sounded like a nice guy. His obituary says he was a loving father and grandfather, a good son and sibling, and an excellent chef when it came to carnitas. I can’t find any detail on what happened to cause his descanso to be erected, but it’s certainly a shame.

Joe was fifty two.

Relative to other memorials I came across in Arizona, Jose’s is pretty involved. It’s crafted out of metal and has details about him that most of the others I found were lacking.

His memorial is on a hill on an endless road between Scottsdale and Sedona. Nothing for miles … then Jose.

The little truck at the base of the memorial made me sad as little cars and trucks and bears always do. They are a reminder of the kids and grandkids who get left behind when stuff like this happens. Kids and grandkids who have no idea why they will never see their dad again … but just know they won’t.

Rest in peace, Jose.
