Kimberly
For some reason Kimberly Sue Jossart was walking in the middle of the lane on highway 20 at 10 PM back in 2006. It was summer, so perhaps not quite completely dark yet, but there was no way the twenty four year old would have expected to come around the corner on highway 20 and have someone standing in the road.
Kimberly was thirty three when she died.

Despite being nearly twenty years old, Kim’s descanso is holding up to the ravages of time, weather, and humanity.

There are a lot of small decorations on the memorial, both on the ground and hanging from the cross, and it appears that folks have been back over the years to write messages in her memory.

She was, apparently, survived by Mariah, Levi, and Mackenzie. Hopefully her siblings, but more realistically her children.

Like other descansos I have photographed, Kim’s had little empty bottles of alcohol at the site, no doubt from grieving friends and family. “Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey” seems to be the most common bottle, five bottles at the base of Kim’s cross.
I’m trying to understand why Fireball … but I am a scotch guy.

Rest in peace, Kim.
