River

Wife and I were coming back to the valley from Central Oregon and she says “wow, look at the river.” There is this wispy but palpable fog just sort of sitting on parts of the river; not fog as we usually see it on Hood River, lighter and somehow more ethereal.

“I gotta stop and take a photo,” I say.

“I know,” she says.

We pulled off just before Cascade Locks and I got the shots below. The fog was off in the distance as I set up the Hasselblad but slowly it came towards me. I used my 135mm lens which is a lot harder to focus, especially in the daytime when it’s difficult to see the screen, but I was able to salvage a few shots.

We kept going downriver and saw that the fog was at the base of the Bridge of the Gods. “I have to stop one more time,” I said.

“I know,” she said. “Be quick, the dogs are ready to be home.”

I’m lucky to have a tolerant wife.

Here are a few random photos you may enjoy, or have a look at all my portfolio, my work shooting roadside memorials, or car people that I have photographed.
