Best Baby Boys

Best Baby Boys

Three lives were likely ruined in the early morning hours on January 21, 2020. Two of them — fourteen year old Taylor Crepeau and eighteen year old Andrew Friedt were killed when they walked into the street, and there is no debating the impact on their lives and those of their families. But the anonymous driver who simply didn’t see the boys wearing dark clothes, in the street outside of a crosswalk, undoubtedly will suffer for a long time as well.

According to the police report the driver just didn’t expect and didn’t see the boys and didn’t have a chance to stop when he did. The article describes a human being in absolute shock, no doubt, and what was ultimately simply a tragic accident.

I broke my rule when I took these photos:

I touched the descansos.

I did so because the sign “Always Loved Never Forgotten!!” was laying down, upside down, perhaps because the wind had blown it over, and the photo of Taylor had flipped over. I knew what I was looking at, I knew the sign was part of the memorial and I knew the hanging object would be a photo of one or both of the deceased, and so I broke my own rule. I won’t make a habit of it, but I also feel like I reset the memorial and in a way, perhaps, the memory of the boys.

We will never know why the boys stepped into the street. We just know that their families and the driver, and likely his family, and the families of the people who stopped to help are forever impacted by what was likely just an unfortunate accident.

Rest in peace, Taylor and Andrew.
