Wesley

Wesley

Wesley was a motorcycle rider. That, in and of itself is not a reason to end up on the opposite side of my camera, but when you combine motorcycles and ill-advised passing on curves … which Wesley and his buddy did on Oregon highway 101 … well, here we are.

Wesley was thirty.

Apparently he and his riding partner were attempting a pass on a blind curve on the coastal highway when a full sized SUV came around at them. Wesley and his partner quickly attempted to return to their lane but made contact, causing Wesley to lose control and hit the SUV head on.

His descanso is elaborate and has lots of the little details I have come to appreciate in my work. The stuffed animals (that I sort of hate to see), a computer board of some kind, notes, rocks, flowers, … it’s clear that his people miss him. “I love you forever Wesley” says the text on the guardrail post, and this sentiment is repeated throughout the site.

I don’t often see photos, especially not good ones, at these memorials, but Wesley has one and so I can see that he was handsome and apparently outdoorsy.

His descansos has a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean over Acadia State Park, a popular beach just South of Cannon Beach, Oregon. I suspect that doesn’t make the people he left behind feel any better, but it is what it is.

Rest in peace, Wesley.
