Finally
I have a map of descansos that I have seen but haven’t been able to photograph for whatever reason. Some because I haven’t been back to the area, some because people have told me about them but I still need to visit, and some because they are dangerous to shoot for one reason or another.
This descanso was on the third list — no safe place to park nearby — but I was able to get the shot today thanks to an assist from the wife.

This was the last memorial I needed to shoot on Washington Highway 14 between Vancouver and the Bridge of the Gods. I travel that road a ton, and every time I had to drive by this simple descanso unable to get the shot it made me twitchy.

From a distance at 55 miles per hour I was pretty sure it was just two pieces of PVC pipe. Up close, however, it was a little more complex. It has a tiny metal cross attached to the PVC where the pipes cross. Still nothing too special about the cross, but a nice touch.
I didn’t bother looking for the story; there wasn’t anything to go on and lots of people die on Highway 14 … sadly.

I got a bonus shot, albeit one where the descanso is slightly out of focus, when the wife came back to pick me up in her Porsche 911 GT3 Touring. The car is a crazy pink color which you can sort of make out in the following shot.

Rest in peace.
