Cory
I have been operating under the assumption that Oregon and Washington really don’t allow descansos on the sides of their major state highways. I formed that assumption because, based on what I have seen on roads like deadly highway 97 and Oregon highway 20, bigger roads like I-5, I-84, and I-205 in Oregon should basically be littered with memorials given the number of accidents I see reported on them … but that is not the case.
Usually …

I was driving on Oregon I-205 with the wife, talking about the project and what ultimately I hope to do with all these photos, and she says “oh hey, there’s one!” And, as usual, she was right: tucked in just before an exit was a little, white cross.

I wasn’t able to find out anything about the deceased; the name and dates didn’t match anything in Google and aside from that there wasn’t much to go on.

As descansos go this one is pretty low effort: a little circle of rocks, one photo, and a cross that has been written on with maybe a crayon or marker in a decidedly casual fashion (again, compared to most of what I have photographed to date.)
But it is what it is. Someone died here and he or she are missed. That’s what counts.

Rest in peace, Cory.
