Daniel
Given the sheer magnitude of Daniel R. Valerio’s descanso, despite the general lack of information about car accidents in New Mexico, I was going to be gobsmacked if the Internet had nothing. Fortunately the Internet came through, although likely because he was only eighteen when he was killed.

Daniel apparently struck a small animal and lost control of his vehicle, crashing into the embankment his memorials were placed upon.

Daniel was not wearing a seatbelt, and so was ejected from the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger lived.

The scope of his memorial is truly impressive. Flowers, artwork, and a view that is nothing short of breathtaking.

There is no name on the adjacent cross so I suspect it is also for Daniel.

I don’t know for sure, but it seemed like he was a baseball player.

The cassette tape is “Alabama — Mountain Music” … sort of a strange selection for an eighteen year old but who am I to judge the dead?

There are a lot of photos of Daniel’s descanso because there was a lot to shoot. Every time I clicked the shutter and looked nearby, there was something else to frame.

A sad scene to photograph on a beautiful, New Mexican day.

Rest in peace, Daniel.
